Gold Plated Rich Tea Biscuit Charm on Necklace - Lily Charmed

A rich tea biscuit charm stands for simple pleasures, quiet restraint and a properly made cup of tea. The rich tea traces back to seventeenth-century Yorkshire, where it began life as a plain tea biscuit for light refreshment. As jewellery it suits calm, unfussy people who love their daily brew. A rich tea biscuit charm celebrates the quiet art of keeping things simple. It stands for calm routines, plain speaking and the firm belief that a good cup of tea needs nothing fancy alongside it.

Four centuries of teatime: The rich tea is one of Britain's oldest biscuits. Its roots reach back to seventeenth-century Yorkshire, where light tea biscuits were served to the gentry as a small bite between meals. The rich in the name came from the malt extract and the extra touch of sugar that set it apart from plainer dry biscuits. McVitie's has sold biscuits under the Rich Tea name since 1891.

A biscuit fit for a royal wedding: The rich tea had its grandest moment in 2011, when Prince William chose a chocolate biscuit cake made with rich tea biscuits as the groom's cake at his wedding. Not bad for the plainest biscuit in the tin.

The gentle art of the dunk: Rich tea devotees know the biscuit's great secret: it dunks beautifully but forgives nothing. Time it right and you get a perfect soft bite. Get distracted for a second and half of it is at the bottom of your mug. Loving a rich tea takes focus, and its fans would have it no other way.

Rich Tea Charm FAQs

How old is the rich tea biscuit?

Older than you might guess. Early versions were baked in seventeenth-century Yorkshire, where plain tea biscuits were offered to the gentry as a light bite between meals. McVitie's has used the Rich Tea name since 1891, making it one of the longest-serving biscuits in Britain.

Why would you give someone a rich tea biscuit charm?

Because some people are rich teas. They stay calm, they never show off, and everyone relies on them more than they admit. The charm honours simple pleasures and steady friendship, and it suits anyone who would rather have a proper cup of tea and a plain biscuit than any amount of fuss.

Did rich tea biscuits really feature at a royal wedding?

Yes. Prince William's groom's cake at the 2011 royal wedding was a chocolate biscuit cake made with rich tea biscuits, based on a recipe he loved as a boy. It gave Britain's most modest biscuit a genuinely royal seal of approval.

Does the rich tea biscuit charm come in gold as well as silver?

It does. There is a recycled 925 sterling silver version with rhodium plating to keep tarnish at bay, and an 18ct gold plated version for warmer stacks. Each hangs from a hinged clasp designed to fit Pandora bracelets and most other charm carriers.
