Jewellery Care Guide

Lily Charmed jewellery is made from high quality 925 Sterling Silver and Gold-plated sterling silver and with proper care and maintenance it will last a lifetime.

Sterling silver is prone to tarnishing, use a silver polishing cloth regularly to prevent tarnish from forming. Store your jewellery in a zip lock bag as this will prevent scratches and tarnishing when your jewellery is not being worn. Remove your jewellery when showering, swimming or applying perfumes and lotions – this will also prevent tarnishing.

A good rule of thumb is to let the jewellery be the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you remove in the evening.

Top Tips

To help you care for your jewellery

POLISH

USE A POLISHING CLOTH

Sterling silver is prone to tarnishing; a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulphur or hydrogen sulphide in the ambient air, and care should be taken to avoid the build-up of tarnish. Polishing the sterling silver regularly with a silver polishing cloth will prevent the tarnish from forming and keep the high shine of the sterling silver intact. However, it will not remove scratches.

SILVER DIP

Silver dip can be a problem with necklaces and bracelets; if the silver dip is not rinsed away completely, the remains will stay in clasps and chains and may eventually destroy the jewellery piece.

Always read the instructions when using a silver dip.

Never use a dip on an item with intentionally oxidised design work. (Eg our mix tape charm)

CLEAN

A safe way to clean most jewellery is to pour a small amount of a mild liquid soap in lukewarm water and use a small, soft brush. Toothbrushes are ideal for cleaning jewellery which can otherwise be difficult to clean. If the jewellery is very dirty, leave it to soak for about 10 minutes. Rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft, clean cloth.

PROTECT

Corrosion of jewellery occurs under moist or wet conditions, especially when also exposed to warmth and air. Perspiration from jewellery wear is a common cause of corrosion. Jewellery should never be worn in the bath, while swimming, in the sauna or when participating in sports.

Do not expose the jewellery to contact with make-up, hairsprays, creams and perfumes as they can speed up the tarnishing process. Avoid exposing your jewellery to household chemicals including bleach and ammonia as they can damage the metals.

A good rule of thumb is to let the jewellery be the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you remove in the evening.

STORE

To minimise scratches and other damage, store the jewellery separately in a tarnish-resistant pouch, or in a separate compartment in a protective box. It will minimise scratches and other damage and prevent tarnish.

It is recommended that Lily Charmed jewellery is either put in a small zip lock bag inside the box provided or that silica gel packets or anti-tarnish strips are added to the box, as they will absorb the moisture from the air and slow down the tarnishing process.

Material Guide

The metals and finishes that make your jewellery

Sterling Silver

Our sterling silver styles are made of 99.9% certified recycled silver.

Sterling silver is a standard material in high quality jewelry. It is precious metal alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals. This is a wonderful base material because it is long-lasting and flexible.

All our jewellery that is over 7.8grams is hallmarked with our Lily Charmed mark at the Birmingham Assay office.

Gold Plated Sterling Silver

We use a thick layer 18 Carat gold to plate over our recycled sterling silver designs.

Use you polishing cloth to keep super shiny. And stay away from chlorine and other chemicals to maintain the shine.

Gold plating care wear over time, so take good care of your jewellery and it will last!

Solid Gold

We have a small selection of solid 9 carat gold charm necklaces.

These are all hallmarked by the assay office to ensure quality.

Solid gold will never tarnish or fade, and is categorised as Fine jewellery.

Enamel and Resin

To add colour to our designs we are using hand painted enamel and a small amount of coloured resin.

Enamel

Enamel is hand painted onto silver as a coloured paste, then heated to a high temperature over over 1500 degrees to fuse the colour to the metal, creating a colourful coating - much like a glaze on pottery.

RESIN

Epoxy resin is made up of 2 liquid parts, that transform into a high shone solid when mixed together - we add colour to the resin to create unique designs.
