Gingerbread Man Biscuit Charm Meaning

A gingerbread man biscuit charm carries more folklore than any other biscuit in the tin. It stands for playfulness, storytelling, festive baking and the happy chaos of a kitchen covered in flour.

A royal beginning: The first recorded figure-shaped gingerbread biscuits appeared at the court of Elizabeth I, whose royal gingerbread maker baked figures in the likeness of visiting dignitaries and favoured courtiers. Being handed a biscuit version of yourself by the Queen of England remains one of history's better party tricks. Gingerbread of the era was sometimes finished with real gold leaf, which is where the old phrase about taking the gilt off the gingerbread began.

The biscuit that ran away: Centuries later came the fairy tale: the gingerbread man who leaps from the oven and outruns everyone until the fox has the last word. Run, run, as fast as you can made him the most rebellious biscuit in the tin, and children have cheered him on ever since.

What the gingerbread man charm represents

Worn on a bracelet or necklace, the gingerbread man biscuit charm celebrates free spirits, family baking days and people who bring the fun with them. It carries a hint of Christmas, but its mischief works all year round.

Who the gingerbread man charm suits

It makes a joyful gift for keen bakers, primary school teachers, new parents starting their own baking traditions, or anyone whose gingerbread never lasts until Boxing Day. Think stocking fillers, Christmas Eve boxes, birthdays and thank-you gifts for the fun one in the family.

The design behind the gingerbread man

The Lily Charmed gingerbread man biscuit charm shows him arms out and mid-dash, just as the story demands. Choose recycled 925 sterling silver with a tarnish-resistant rhodium plating, or 18ct gold plating over recycled silver for a warmer, gingerbread-toned finish. Its hinged clasp opens to fit Pandora bracelets and most charm carriers.

How to wear the gingerbread man charm

Add him to a festive stack in December, then let him stay put for the rest of the year: he is far too quick to catch twice. Round out the bake with the rest of the biscuit charm collection, from the digestive to the NICE, or browse our food charms.
